Universities play a critical role in shaping the future of society. 1CORE WP4 leverages this power by connecting education, research, and community engagement to address key societal challenges. Through lifelong learning initiatives, sustainability, health, and social inclusion are at the forefront, aligning with both local and European needs. WP4 also pioneers the development of micro-credentials, ensuring flexible learning opportunities for a diverse range of learners.
Structured around tasks that foster collaboration, open access to knowledge, and lifelong learning, this work package strengthens the ties between universities and society.
Task 4.1 focuses on creating research-based lifelong learning courses within the 4EU+ Alliance. These courses, offered through both online and in-person formats, aim to provide flexible learning options across various national contexts. The 4EU+ Professional Learning Academy will serve as a platform for joint lifelong learning initiatives, supporting collaboration between academic and non-academic partners and exploring the development of micro-credentials to meet societal and industry needs.
Task 4.2. integrates open science practices within the doctoral training programmes of the 4EU+ universities. It includes incorporating open science content into curricula, raising awareness, and providing sustainable training to promote open science across the Alliance.
Task 4.3 supports teaching and research activities with the production of open-access educational texts. The task will ensure the accessibility of these materials for students, researchers, and the public, while defining guidelines for open-access publication initiatives based on best practices within 4EU+ universities .
This task focuses on fostering citizen engagement in scientific research through knowledge-sharing activities such as MOOCs, open data tools, and webinars. It aims to create strategies that build communities around these activities and encourage active participation in research. The task will also explore replicating these approaches across all Alliance universities.
Task 4.5 promotes the values of sustainability, digital transformation, and resilience within the 4EU+ Alliance and to broader audiences. It includes taking stock of existing public engagement initiatives across partner universities and mapping stakeholders, including student organisations and public/private institutions. Activities encompass in-person workshops with experts and stakeholders, alongside online webinars for the public. This task strengthens awareness and engagement, positioning the Alliance as a leader in green, digital, and resilient initiatives.
