4EU+ webinar: Health and Climate Change (28 February)

Date and time: 28 February, 11:00 - 13:00

Format: online

Registration: Register for the event

The climate crisis is escalating, and its devastating impacts on human health and well-being are also intensifying. Extreme weather events - such as floods, drought, wildfires, heat waves, and windstorms - affect health both directly and indirectly. We are facing a crisis that increases heat-related illnesses and deaths, alters the patterns of infectious disease transmission, and extends health emergencies.

Did you know that?

  1. Between 2030 and 2050, climate change is expected to cause approximately 250,000 additional deaths per year from undernutrition, malaria, diarrhoea and heat stress alone.

  2. The direct damage costs to health (excluding costs in health-determining sectors such as agriculture and water and sanitation) are estimated to be between US$ 2–4 billion annually by 2030.

These are key facts from The World Health Organisation.

Additionally, climate change strains health systems by increasing the demand for health services while impairing their ability to respond effectively.

If you want to enhance your awareness about the health impacts of climate change, register for the event now.

At this event, you will learn about:

  • The health risks associated with climate change and how to prevent them

  • Climate anxiety and depression, as well as strategies for maintaining your mental health

  • Climate innovation in the healthcare ecosystem

  • Climate change-related health issues at universities - challenges and opportunities

The webinar is open to academic societies, citizens, local authorities, and non-profit organizations.
