Exploring the future of urban food policies: 1CORE Dissemination Event hosted at the University of Milan

The University of Milan hosted the 1CORE Dissemination Event "Sustainable Food Systems: urban and global perspectives. A dialogue between 4EU+ European Universities and cities" on 17 October 2025.

Organised in collaboration with the City of Milan in the context of the MUFPP Global Forum, the event gathered over 160 participants online and on-site: students and PhD candidates from the 4EU+ Alliance's Universities and experts who engaged in dialogue on the future of urban food policies from a sustainable, fair and inclusive perspective.

The Dissemination Event showcased the 4EU+1CORE project's achievements in consolidating a challenge-based educational-scientific offer, with a focus on cross-disciplinary training in sustainability and food policy. It also formed the final element of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact Global Forum 2025, marking the 10th anniversary of the Pact’s signature.

Opened with institutional greetings by Rector Marina Brambilla, Deputy Major of the City of Milan Anna Scavuzzo and the 4EU+ Secretary General Elena Del Giorgio, the event included:

  • A roundtable that involved experts in the field of food policy from the 4EU+ Alliance's associated partners, as well as academics. The roundtable was chaired by Antonella Baldi, 4EU+ Alliance Delegate at the University of Milan, with the participation of Vice-Rector for Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition Alessandro Banterle, Vice President of Fondazione Cariplo Claudia Sorlini and experts from the Municipalities of Milan, Paris, Copenhagen.

  • A debate chaired by Prof. Francesca Villata, sparking a dialogue between experts and students from 4EU+ Member Universities who, prior to the Dissemination Event, had participated in the 1CORE course "Feeding the Planet – shaping a sustainable future". Sacha Green, chair of the 4EU+ Student Committee, concluded the debate, stressing the role of students as co-creators of the Alliance.

The students and PhD candidates who attended the hybrid course "Feeding the Planet – shaping a sustainable future" actively participated in the dialogue. After attending online classes and workgroup activities, they met in Milan on 16-17 October, where they finalised their presentations for the 1CORE Dissemination Event. The rapporteurs who presented the students' insights and questions on behalf of the participants from 4EU+ member universities were: Robin Kemmel (Charles University), Tinka Stössel (University of Geneva), Angelo Tinella (University of Milan).

The course and event were organised as part of the Erasmus+ 1CORE project, under task 7.3, WP7—Communication and Dissemination.
