Laura Colo, new 1CORE Project Manager in the 4EU+ Alliance

Could you tell us a little bit about your professional background and why you chose the position of Project Manager for the 4EU+ Alliance?

From the start of my career, I have been fortunate to be involved in networks aimed at fostering collaboration among universities. My passion for this work deepened during my year coordinating the ED-AFFICHE project, where six European University Alliances collaborated to provide recommendations to the European Commission, member states, and universities to implement the European degree. This project highlighted the transformative power of international cooperation in higher education, and one of our key partners was 4EU+.

I feel that 4EU+ and I chose each other. I sought a role where I could more concretely engage with a European university alliance, and 4EU+ recognized my passion and positivity regarding this initiative. I am eager to contribute to this dynamic alliance and am curious to see where this exciting journey will lead us.

What do you think is the most exciting aspect of working in an academic environment - from the perspective of someone who worked on various higher education policy projects and within the European University Alliances?

The most exciting aspect of working in an academic environment is the profound and lasting impact we can have on current and future generations. Having been a student not long ago, I understand the challenges and needs of today's students. This insight drives me to ensure our efforts are genuinely student-centered, addressing societal challenges through a multicultural and interdisciplinary approach. It's incredibly fulfillng to think that our work today will help shape a more inclusive, innovative, and responsive higher education landscape.

How do you envision the European University Alliances contributing to the future of higher education in Europe?

European University Alliances have the potential to elevate university collaboration to an unprecedented level. By offering joint programmes and fostering a deep understanding of diverse needs and challenges, alliances like 4EU+ can provide unparalleled opportunities for mutual learning and improvement. This collaborative spirit will enhance the educational offerings for students and staf, promoting an inclusive and sustainable European citizenship founded on respect and understanding. The alliances will be instrumental in driving forward a more interconnected and resilient higher education system in Europe.

Tell us a bit about yourself: what do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I have a wide range of interests that keep me energized and inspired. I love sports, particularly CrossFit and jogging, which help me stay active and focused. And don't worry, I’m not all muscles without brain! Fashion is another passion of mine, and I enjoy vintage shopping and sewing. I also love to travel and immerse myself in new cultures, always eager to learn and experience new things. Reading is another way I unwind and expand my horizons. There’s so much more, but I look forward to sharing these experiences with you all in the coming months! :)

We are excited to have Laura on board and look forward to the energy and expertise she will bring to the 4EU+ Alliance. We wish her great success in her new role and are confident that her contributions will drive the 1CORE project forward.
