Application

When is it possible to apply for admission?

It depends on your citizenship: Citizens from a country from outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland can submit their application from 15 November. The deadline is 15 January 23:59 CET.

Citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland can submit their application from 16 January. The deadline is 1 March 23:59 CET.

We do not accept applications after the deadline.

How do I apply for the admission?

You apply for admission via the online application portal at the University of Copenhagen. Please follow the instructions carefully and submit all required documentation.

What are the requirements for the letter of motivation?

The requirement for the letters of motivation is described under Admission requirements and application > Required documentation > Letter of Motivation.

Is it possible to apply to more than one Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s programme?

There is no limit to how many Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Programmes you can apply for across universities.

If you wish to apply for three different Eramsus Mundus programmes offered at the University of Copenhagen (UCPH), you must be aware of the specific admission requirements for each programme. Furthermore, you are only allowed to submit a maximum of 3 applications to study programmess across all faculties at the UCPH) for the same intake.

Any additional applications will be cancelled by the MSc admission office.

Being from within the European Union and granted an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, can I be enrolled at a university in my home country for the first or second academic year?

Scholarship holders must successfully complete a minimum of 30 ECTS in two countries which are different from the country in which you resided at the time of application.

This means that if, e.g. you, are residing in Italy at the time of application, you must choose a study track with a second-year university that is not located in Italy in order to be eligible for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship.

Is it possible to apply as a part-time student?

No, all Erasmus Mundus students must study full-time.

Can I apply, if I already have graduated from an Erasmus Mundus programme and/or have obtained an Erasmus Mundus scholarship previously?

It is only possible to obtain an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship once, but you are welcome to apply as a fee-paying student.

Can I apply to an Erasmus Mundus programme if I already hold a master’s degree?

Yes, you can apply for admission. However, to meet the application requirements, you must upload your qualifying bachelor’s transcript and certificate. Your master’s degree is not taken into consideration in the assessment for admission

Is it necessary to submit a language proficiency test if English was the language/medium of instruction during my undergraduate studies?

We only accept a completed upper secondary school degree, bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in English from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom or USA, as proof of English language proficiency.

I have previously taken an English test; can I use this as part of my application?

Yes - if you have passed one of the following:

  • IELTS (Academic)

  • TOEFL (IBT, home edition)

  • Cambridge (CPE or CAE pass level of C1 or C2)

The IELTS and TOEFL results are only valid if they are not older than two years counted from the application deadline. There is no limitation for validity for the Cambridge tests.

Can I send the registration for my test as proof of my language proficiency?

No, we will only accept an official certificate of your results as proof of language proficiency.

Can I send the language proficiency test results after the submission deadline?

No, the language proficiency test result must be submitted by the application deadline.

I will not receive my bachelor’s diploma before the application deadline. Can I send my diploma after graduation?

Yes, in this case, you must document that you have completed your bachelor’s degree as soon as possible and no later than 20 September.

What kind of certification is required?

Your documents must have an original stamp and a signature verifying the True Copy.

Typically, your university can assist you in certifying your documents. Otherwise, we also accept signatures by embassies and official representatives or public offices, e.g. police stations.

The document must carry an official stamp and a signature, or we must be able to verify the documentation online.

When will I get the result of my application?

Non-EU applicants: From March to May.

EU, EAA or Swiss applicants: From late May to June.


You will be informed of the result of your application regarding admission as well as the Erasmus Mundus scholarship through the application portal.

If you receive an offer of admission (and scholarship), you will have one week to accept the offer through the application portal.

What is the assessment procedure regarding Erasmus Mundus scholarships?

Each assessment category (i.e. academic excellence, relevant work experience, and personal motivation) is allocated a grade between 1 and 5.

A final application grade is obtained using a weighting system whereby 75% of the final grade is allocated to academic excellence, 15% to work experience, and finally 10% to personal motivation.

Can I appeal the result of the assessment of my application?

You may submit an appeal pertaining to legal issues such as legal errors and irregularities if you find that the decision does not comply with Danish legislation. You cannot appeal against the assessment of your academic qualifications made by the Assessment Committee.

An appeal must be submitted within two weeks of receiving the result of the assessment to the University of Copenhagen to msc-admissions@science.ku.dk.

An appeal on grounds of legal matters must be made in writing, and you must state exactly on which grounds you believe that the decision is not in compliance with the applicable legislation. The appeal regulations can be found in paragraph 50 of Ministerial Order no. 35. The Ministerial Order can be found here.

Will submitted documentation be returned to me?

No, we only accept digital documents and not hard paper copies. If we receive hard copies, we will not look at them, but instead they will be shredded.

Will I receive academic feedback on my application?

Due to the high number of applications, we cannot provide academic feedback on your application.

Economy

How much money does an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship include?

The Erasmus Mundus scholarship amounts to 33,600 EUR. 1400 EUR per month for up to 24 months.

The scholarship is considered a contribution to living expenses while on the programme.

When do I receive the first instalment?

You will receive the first instalment upon arrival at the University of Copenhagen – expected disposal by the end of September.

Instalments are not transferred prior to departure from your home country.

Are there any other sources of funding available?

You can find a list of other fundeing sources under Tuition fee, scholarships and other funding.

You are welcome to research other options for funding too.

Can I get accepted as a fee-paying student?

If the M3EP Assessment Committee assesses your application positively, you can pay the tuition fee and join the programme without a scholarship.

The tuition fee depends on your nationality.

For Non-EU students, the tuition fee amounts to € 33,600 for the two-year master’s programme.

For students from the EU, EEA and Switzerland, there is no tuition fee for the two-year master’s programme.

As a Non-EU student, when do I have to pay the tuition fee?

The payment deadlines are:

  • 1st semester: 15 April

  • 2nd semester: 15 January

  • 3rd semester: 15 August

  • 4th semester: 15 January

Please note that tuition fees are not refunded after 1 August. After this date, only a failed visa application will result in a refund of your tuition fee.

What will be the estimated costs of living in Europe?

Monthly living expenses include rent and utilities, internet and phone subscriptions, food and household supplies, local transportation, books, and other study material, as well as sports and leisure activities.

Living expenses will vary individually depending on the cost of housing and your personal lifestyle choices. Living in Europe is estimated at EUR 1,280-1,800 per month.

I am an American national who has been granted a US Loans. Can I pay the tuition fee with money from the US loan?

Due to a number of factors, US Loans cannot be used to cover the tuition fee.


Practicalities

How do I find accommodation?

Your host university will assist you in finding accommodation. You will automatically receive further information on accommodation at the end of June for your study period at UCPH.

How can Non-EU students obtain a visa to study in Europe as part of an Erasmus Mundus Programme?

If you, as a Non-EU student, are offered admission to the programme, you must apply for a visa.

UCPH will start your online visa application (ST1) to Denmark on your behalf once you are fully admitted to the programme. We will initiate visa applications for fully admitted students in late May. You will receive an email with instructions on how to fill out your part of the application. After you have received the email, you must continue your visa application on your own.

You must pay the processing fee for your visa yourself. UCPH cannot make any payments for your scholarship in advance to cover travel, visa fees, etc.

You will also receive information from your 2nd year university in time for you to apply for a visa in the respective host country.

Instructions on the visa application procedures are available on the websites of the respective host countries.

When can I expect to receive my visa?

The processing time of the visa applications to Denmark may be up to 2 months. Therefore, the sooner you fulfil all conditions, the sooner we can initiate your visa application. We strongly recommend that you complete your part of the visa application immediately after we have initiated it.

A delay in handing in the complete visa application could add approximately 8 weeks to the process.

Who arranges and pays for my travel?

You must organise the booking and the cost of travel yourself.
