With great enthusiasm, the 4EU+ Alliance shares the results of the latest Visiting Professorships call. This initiative aims to enhance knowledge exchange among our eight member universities, facilitating the development of cutting-edge research and educational practices across borders and disciplines.
In the second edition of the 4EU+ Visiting Professorships call, 11 candidates were selected from among 34 applications received from across the universities, reflecting the vibrant interest in collaborative research and educational activities. These academics will embark on a 2-3 month journey at another 4EU+ university, engaging in joint research, developing innovative educational frameworks, and contributing to scientific workshops and conferences.
Here are the selected projects and their highlights:
Veronika Čapská (Charles University → Heidelberg University)
The project aims to develop international research-based learning courses in Transcultural Studies/History. It involves collaboration with experts from various humanities disciplines, with a strong potential to strengthen existing cooperation within 4EU+ and expand the cooperation network.
Xavier Galmiche (Sorbonne University - Charles University)
This project focuses on Czech language and literature, aiming to involve about 80 students from three member universities in an interdisciplinary exploration of literary modernity, ecolingualism, and the cultural dynamics of the early twentieth century.
Jessica Allison Holmes (University of Copenhagen - Sorbonne University)
Bridging musicology, cultural studies, epidemiology, and public health, this project addresses depression since the COVID crisis. It aims to create an open-access digital database and involve Master's students in the research process, with a potential ERC Synergy Grant application
Magdalena Łazicka (University of Warsaw - Sorbonne University)
This project tackles the challenge of artificial photosynthesis and green energy by designing new biohybrid devices. It leverages high-level expertise in photosynthesis and bioelectrochemistry, offering potential for a long-term partnership.
Agnieszka Leńko-Szymańska (University of Warsaw - Charles University)
Combining scientific and pedagogical components, this project seeks to expand the studied corpus to the linguistic contexts of all member countries. It aims to analyze fluency features, lexical features, and teacher attitudes in the English Teacher Corpus, offering valuable insights for improving teacher training programs.
Peter Larsen (University of Geneva - University of Copenhagen)
Addressing green criminalization in an innovative and interdisciplinary way, this project focuses on environmental defenders and evolving activism in the green transition. It aims to establish a joint research and teaching initiative, including a summer school.
Martin Nejedlý (Charles University - Sorbonne University)
This project involves research on Charles IV and the development of the concept for the 4EU+ Spring School in Prague. It aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, enhance educational programmes, and strengthen academic networks across universities, contributing to a deeper understanding of European history and culture.
Maria Cristina Paganoni (University of Milan - Charles University)
This project explores how tourism can promote peace, transnational understanding, and sustainability. It aims to develop the concept of peace-sensitive tourism, with significant contributions to peace promotion and public engagement.
Záviš Šuman (Charles University - Sorbonne University)
Combining scientific and teaching components, this project focuses on French literature from the 17th century and French as a foreign language. It aims to enhance comprehension of European literary traditions and foster research-based education, with outcomes such as shared teaching materials and a joint MA programme.
Bartosz Wołodkiewicz (University of Warsaw - University of Milan)
This project focuses on the codification of European Civil Procedure, analyzing regulations and their backgrounds. It aims to facilitate judicial actions and develop a culture of civil procedure law in Europe, with significant potential for further research projects.
Ewa Żebrowska (University of Warsaw - University of Milan)
The project “Communicating in Multilingual Digital Europe” focuses on the significance of multilingualism in fostering a common European identity. It involves analyzing social discourse on multilingualism and developing digital tools to enhance multilingual potential, aiming to promote linguistic diversity and inclusivity.
The initial cohort of the 4EU+ Visiting Professors has either completed or are currently completing their stays, contributing significantly to our academic community. Many of them have shared their insights and experiences, which you can explore here.
