This Visiting Professorship aims to complete a preliminary research project focusing on the social life of the late antique Christian clergy and to submit a major joint project proposal. The clergy played a pivotal role in late antique communities, but many aspects of their social functioning remain unexplored. The project will amalgamate textual and material evidence, involving specialists in archaeology and history. The team members will examine the clergy from multiple perspectives, with a particular focus on the newly discovered findings from the Doliche excavations in Southeast Turkey.
