We are pleased to invite you to our upcoming 1CORE Coffee Talk “Teaching and learning with and around AI: sharing practices and experiences”. The webinar is open to anyone interested in the topic, particularly lecturers, instructional designers, pedagogical experts, and AI professionals in educational contexts. It is intended as a virtual opportunity to exchange experiences and best practices in AI faculty development among lecturers and staff across the 4EU+ Universities.
The coffee talk will feature four speakers who will present experiences from Charles University, Sorbonne University and the University of Milan. Participants are also invited to share their experiences during the Q&A session.
Dr. David Jiří Šlosar, AI Methodologist, Central Library, Charles University
The experience of developing a “Guidelines for the Use of GenAI in Final Theses” (adopted by most faculties at Charles University) thanks to a community-based approach will be presented, showing how AI can be governed through participation and consensus-reaching on rules of use in a large university.
Dr. Angela Vargas Moreno, Instructional designer, CAPSULE, Sorbonne University
Introduction of a pedagogical kit developed by Sorbonne’s Centre d’Accompagnement pour la Pédagogie et SUpport à L’Expérimentation (CAPSULE) in collaboration with Sorbonne Cluster for Articifial Intelligence (SCAI). This kit enables teachers to run a workshop with their students to co-create an AI charter tailored to the pedagogical needs of their class, discipline, and course.
Prof. Jekaterina NIKITINA, Associate Professor of English Language, Translation and Linguistics, University of Milan
Reporting on a pilot experimentation with a course-specific AI knowledge base through an optional digital communication campaign task activated for students of communication studies. The goal of the project was to make AI output the starting point for critical thinking. Students were asked to use AI to explore theoretical concepts and apply them to their own campaigns, tracing those concepts back to the teaching materials. They documented their interactions and explained which AI suggestions they accepted, revised or rejected - and why.
Prof. Valentina Pifferi, Associate Professor of Chemistry, University of Milan
The experience described focuses on the use of Artificial Intelligence to support the solution of introductory chemical problems. Particular attention will be given to a Socratic approach, in which AI guides students through targeted questions rather than providing direct answers, thereby fostering critical thinking, conceptual understanding, and independent problem-solving skills.
The webinar will be chaired by Dr. Vassiliki Michou, Programme Manager in innovative pedagogies, 4EU+ Team, Sorbonne University and Dr. Edda Cecilia Orlandi, 4EU+ Team, University of Milan.
