More than a paper: writing and communicating research, online workshop

Are you a PhD candidate looking to improve not only your academic writing, but also the way you communicate your research?

Join us online for the 4EU+ 1CORE PhD workshop More than a paper: writing and communicating research

When: Friday 23 October 2026, 15.00-17.00.

Where: on MS Teams – Register here by 22 October 2026.

About the workshop:

Writing a scientific article can be challenging; in fact, many researchers begin to develop their writing skills only during their first submission to a journal. Although scholars assume that good publications come with good research projects, the truth is that a lot of practice is often necessary in order to present scientific work and findings effectively. Digital social platforms are not mere distractions; they can actually be useful for developing one’s practical skills in formulating, developing and illustrating an argument, allowing researchers to refine their ideas, reach a wider audience, and gather feedback and reactions. This webinar discusses the advantages of learning how to use alternative channels to share and discuss research, as writing a scientific article is not simply an event that occurs once a research project is completed, but rather an integral part of the research process itself. It introduces PhD students to the principles and practices of scholarly communication, highlighting its importance for developing effective writing skills and addressing open science practices, while illustrating the most useful channels, including pre-print and pre-registration servers, LinkedIn, Substack, Instagram, public talks, blogs and associations. The interactive webinar will also include a final Q&A session.

Trainers: Laura Giovinazzi, Carolina Manfredini (Università degli Studi di Milano)

The webinar is organised in the context of 1CORE – Task 3.3: Creating 4EU+ environment for PhD candidates.
