Designed for university teaching teams from the eight 4EU+ member universities, this interactive workshop offers a hands-on approach to course development in all subjects and disciplines. Drawing on constructivist theory and a learner-centered approach, it combines strategies that are also at the core of 4EU+ teaching and learning. By utilizing the SEA Model (Spaces of Educational Activities), participants will gain the tools and insights necessary to design cohesive, engaging, and effective educational environments. The workshop takes place on various dates in February and March 2025. It comprises online formats, an in-person session at Heidelberg University on 17 and 18 February, and a self-directed learning phase.
Course outline
Online Pre-Workshop Preparation (3 February, from 16:00 to 17:30):
Participants will engage in a brief online discussion to clarify specific questions about course improvements, setting the stage for a productive face-to-face workshop.
Face-to-Face Workshop in Heidelberg (17-18 February 2025):
Participants will gather in Heidelberg for an intensive, hands-on session where they will apply the SEA Model to their chosen course. This collaborative process will involve deep reflection, active dialogue, and strategic planning to refine their course design.
Self-Directed Learning (20 February to 7 March 2025):
Participants will engage in a self-directed learning phase, which will allow the teams to further develop their course plans and integrate insights gained during the workshop.
Online Follow-Up Session (Week of 10-14 March 2025):
A half-day online session will be held to share results, reflect on lessons learned, and discuss the next steps for implementing the course plans developed during the workshop.
In this workshop, participants will embark on a collaborative process that goes beyond traditional course planning. The SEA Model provides a practical framework for aligning course objectives, learning activities, and assessments, ensuring a seamless learning journey for students. Participants will learn to develop courses that resonate with students’ aspirations and foster meaningful learning experiences. This can be applied particularly in international teaching environments, for example in blended course formats that seek to align online and face-to-face activities.
Whether university teachers are developing a new course or refining an existing one, this workshop offers a valuable opportunity to assess and enhance learning design competencies. Engage in reflections, dialogues, and strategic course design within a supportive, expert-led environment.
The workshop is organized within the framework of the 1CORE project.
