Various career pathways in research

Monday, 2 December 2024, 3 PM

The aim of the workshop is to provide you with an overview that will help you make informed decisions about your career path after earning a PhD. Should you pursue academia or explore opportunities elsewhere? What types of jobs and positions should you look for? The pros, cons and specifics of the various paths will be discussed.

In this workshop you will:

  1. Learn about the professional paths of PhD holders from various research fields (SSH - social sciences and humanities and STEM - science, technology, engineering and mathematics), and how PhD experience can be used also in non-academic careers;

  2. Have time to reflect on your own priorities regarding your professional life.

The workshop will combine lecture blocks with group and individual activities. Lecture blocks will present findings from quantitative and qualitative research on the career paths of PhD holders in both academic and non-academic settings. Group and individual activities will help you identify your own priorities for your professional future and link these priorities to concrete career path options.

Lecturer: Kateřina Cidlinská, Ph.D., Faculty of Arts, Charles University
