Modelling nature and its processes
The Mathematical-Biological Seminar was founded at the Institute of Mathematics of the Czech Academy of Sciences more than ten years ago. Since then, the seminar has been running continuously and has hosted several dozen speakers from both the Czech Republic and abroad. In 2023, the seminar moved to the Faculty of Science at Charles University and was soon expanded to a hybrid 4EU+ course. Since then, lecturers across the Alliance participate in person and online and discuss various topics at the intersection of mathematics and biology. Participants come from all career stages, from Bachelor’s level to tenured professors. In 2025, the seminar had its first in-person workshop after successfully applying to a Charles University minigrant call. Staying true to its interdisciplinary focus, the “MAT-BIO Exchange: Workshop on Modelling Biological Processes” did not stick to the classroom, but included outdoor activities near Prague, observing its object of study up close.
