The project entitled “Media and democracy evolution in Europe” (MEDEE), directly linked to Flagship 2: Europeanness: multilingualism, pluralities, citizenship, initiates a European perspective and a comparative view on the changing relationship between the media and democracies today (in Czech Republic, France, Denmark, Poland and Hungria), using a comprehensive and forward-looking approach. The objective is to share methods to understand the co-constitutive role of the news media and socio-technical devices (platforms, social networks) in the massive circulation of “fake news” and disinformation processes and their impact on democratic processes. A particular attention is paid to the role and strategies of journalists and media organizations, insofar as they fight against “alternative” readings of current affairs as well as disqualifying speech on women, ethnic groups and sexual minorities. The project aims at enriching the reflection on the role of information media, platforms and digital devices in the advent of counter-truthfulness.

"My 4EU+ Visiting Professorship provides me with an opportunity to strengthen my collaboration with researchers from Charles University - especially Alice Němcová Tejkalová and Kateřina Turková from the Department of Journalism - for future joint projects and grant applications. It allows me to discover new methods and epistemologies and to experience different pedagogical practices. The workshop “Media, Europe, Democracy” organized within this framework, with the participation of colleagues from the University of Copenhagen and the University of Warsaw, gave me a great opportunity to discuss in-depth issues and research perspectives on journalism, disinformation processes, media organization and propaganda technics at a time of illiberalism. The enthusiastic exchanges with PhD students on their doctoral research are particularly enriching.
I highly recommend the Visiting Professorship programme to anyone seeking to exchange ideas with peers from partner universities, expand their research perspectives and internationalize their academic profiles."
