As part of the 1CORE project, Milestone 10 – Interim Report of the Learning Pathways assesses the progress made in developing 4EU+ Learning Pathways and sets out recommendations for their further implementation. Its main objective is to identify how students can more easily combine educational activities and mobility opportunities offered by different 4EU+ universities within personalised, transnational and academically recognised learning journeys.
To support this objective, the 1CORE Work Package 3 team analysed the approaches developed by the four 4EU+ Flagships, consulted Flagship representatives and surveyed member universities to understand where elective credits and curricular flexibility could allow students to integrate 4EU+ activities into their studies.
The report:
provides an updated definition of Learning Pathways, placing students and lifelong learners at the centre and enabling them to combine courses, modules, events, micro-credentials and physical, virtual or hybrid mobility opportunities;
identifies common principles for their development, including alignment with societal challenges, innovative pedagogies, interdisciplinary learning, joint delivery and institutional recognition;
reviews the different approaches developed by the four 4EU+ Flagships, covering areas such as urban health, multilingualism, European citizenship, artificial intelligence, mathematics and biodiversity;
introduces the concept of a 4EU+ Activity Window, identifying the credits, semesters or elective components in which students could realistically integrate at least one 4EU+ educational experience into their study programme;
highlights the importance of clear learning outcomes, academic recognition and targeted communication, so that students, faculties and programme coordinators can more easily understand and recognise 4EU+ opportunities;
recommends consolidating existing 4EU+ tools and funding mechanisms, rather than creating entirely new structures, to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Learning Pathways.
Through 1CORE, the Learning Pathways framework helps organise and communicate the Alliance’s educational offer more coherently. It creates realistic entry points for students to gain an international and interdisciplinary learning experience across 4EU+, while building on existing curricula, cooperation agreements, mobility schemes and digital tools.
