4EU+ supports universities applying in the 2nd Erasmus+ European Universities call

On 27 November 2019, 4EU+ representatives took part in the seminar “New European Universities” organised by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The meeting was organised in order to facilitate the exchange of experience and provide the Polish higher education institutions planning to take part in the second Erasmus+ ‘European Universities’ pilot call with insights into how to best organise work within the consortium and plan the work on the application.

In the plenary session, representatives of five Polish universities that are part of the consortia selected in the first pilot call – 4EU+, EPICUR, FORTHEM, SEA-EU and UNA EUROPA – presented the missions and key education goals of their university alliances. Dr hab. Maciej Duszczyk, Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations of the University of Warsaw and member of the 4EU+ Steering Committee, spoke about the importance of demonstrating a long-term strategy and a clear-cut, informed rationale behind a partnership.

The plenary was followed by workshops, during which the participants had a chance to ask questions about more practical aspects of building a well-structured university partnership and developing an Erasmus+ European University proposal.

Announced on 7 November 2019 in Brussels, the second pilot call for European Universities under Erasmus+ has a budget of € 120 million and is due to fund 24 European Universities with a grant € 5 million for three years each. The deadline for the current call is 26 February 2020 and the selected initiatives are expected to be announced in July 2020.

As part of its dissemination activities, the 4EU+ Alliance is committed to offering advice and information on the effects and achievements of 4EU+ cooperation to other university alliances interested in applying in the Erasmus+ European Universities call.

On 29 November 2019, Prof. Lenka Rovna, Vice-Rector for European Affairs of Charles University and Member of the 4EU+ Steering Committee, presented the Alliance in the “The European Universities Alliance initiative: lessons learned and future opportunities” organised as part of the annual General Assembly of the UNICA Network. Representatives of 6 other alliances – ARQUS, CHARM-EU, CIVIS, EUTOPIA, Una Europa, and YUFE - participated in the session.
