4EU+ Alliance develops roadmap for a sustainable joint educational offer

The 4EU+ Alliance has published "4EU+ Sustainable Educational Offer", a document developed under the Erasmus+ 1CORE project. The document sets out a strategy to strengthen joint educational activities and joint study programmes across the Alliance, with a focus on long-term sustainability, curriculum integration and support for academic staff.

The deliverable responds to key priorities in European higher education policy, including the European Degree label initiative, the EU's Union of Skills, and recent reflections on Europe's competitiveness and knowledge economy, such as the reports by Mario Draghi and Enrico Letta. In this context, the document shows how European University Alliances can contribute to more integrated, flexible and skills-oriented education across borders.

The main objective is to move 4EU+ educational cooperation beyond short-term project funding and make it part of the regular academic offer of partner universities. The document identifies ways to embed shared and joint courses into existing curricula, improve recognition of learning outcomes and ECTS, support academics in dealing with different institutional procedures, and create conditions for the development of joint study programmes. It also explores how cooperation with business and society can help ensure that programmes respond to current social, environmental and labour-market needs.

The target groups are students, academic staff, programme directors, educational developers, administrative teams and university leadership across the 4EU+ member universities. For students, the strategy aims to increase access to international learning opportunities, including virtual, hybrid and mobility-based formats. For academics and support staff, it provides guidance on procedures, quality assurance, recognition and programme design.

The expected impact is a more stable and visible 4EU+ educational offer, less dependent on temporary project cycles. By supporting the integration of joint activities into regular curricula and by preparing the ground for future European Degree label pathways, the deliverable contributes to the broader development of the European Higher Education Area. It also reinforces the role of university alliances in equipping learners with the skills needed for the green and digital transitions, active citizenship and Europe’s long-term competitiveness.
