With the aim of highlighting the range of courses and the different opportunities for exchange in the 4EU+ European University Alliance, the first “4EU+ Student Night” took place at Heidelberg University on 10 May 2023.
The hybrid information session was addressed to bachelor and master students, and also to doctoral candidates in all subjects and disciplines. The main goal of the event was to give an overview of the educational offers within the four interdisciplinary Flagships of 4EU+ as well as mobility and funding options in the framework of the Alliance. Around 50 people participated in the Student Night, which was held on site at Heidelberg’s New University and livestreamed to the six partners in Prague, Paris, Copenhagen, Geneva, Milan, and Warsaw.
The event was opened by Isabelle Kratz, Secretary General of the Alliance, and Marta Lis, Chair of the Student Executive Committee, who welcomed the participants and gave an introduction to the work of 4EU+. Students from the University of Milan and Sorbonne University in Paris then provided insights into their academic experiences within the Alliance, outlining the ways in which they have integrated course offers into their individual study paths. A key part of the event were presentations by the four Flagships – the thematic emphases worked on across the seven member universities of the Alliance. Researchers from the Flagships described how students and doctoral candidates can become involved in the various activities of the networks. Members of the 4EU+ local office in Heidelberg informed about mobility options and funding opportunities. Following a final Q&A session, students were able to get into conversation with the representatives of the Alliance to discuss individual questions and to share their experiences.
The 4EU+ Student Night took place in the context of the European Universities Week, which was initiated by the German Academic Exchange Service. The events planned around Europe Day on 9 May offered insights into the engagement of the German universities belonging to the European University Alliances.
