🗨️ English as a foreign language | 👩‍🏫 Teaching challenges | 📊 Corpus research

Project description

This project involves collaboration with the Department of English Language and ELT Methodology at Charles University to advance research on the English Teacher Corpus (ETC) – a unique spoken corpus comprising recordings of teachers of English as a foreign language. The initiative aims to expand the corpus by incorporating data from Polish educators, enabling comparative research on language proficiency, teaching challenges, and pedagogical approaches in Czechia and Poland.

In addition to its research focus, the project integrates a teaching component, offering a course on corpus-based language instruction for BA students and consultations for BA, MA, and PhD students engaged in corpus research.

Beyond contributing to learner corpus studies, the initiative seeks to strengthen long-term academic exchange, enhance teacher education programs, and lay the groundwork for future European collaborative research proposals.

This collaboration aligns with the 4EU+ Flagship 2, which promotes multilingualism and European identity through research and education.

Period abroad: February - May 2025

Agnieszka Leńko-Szymańska on building lasting academic ties

"I am excited to collaborate with my Czech colleagues on this important and innovative project. Beyond contributing to the expansion of this unique corpus with Polish data and exploring new research avenues, I hope to foster a stronger, long-term partnership between my home and host institutions. I also look forward to interacting with Czech students through teaching and research consultations. Additionally, I greatly anticipate the opportunity to immerse myself in the vibrant academic environment of Charles University while spending three months in the beautiful city of Prague."
