Centre for French Culture and Francophone Studies at the University of Warsaw

The Centre for French Culture and Francophone Studies (CFC), a multi-disciplinary research unit of the University of Warsaw, offers opportunities for young researchers (doctoral candidates or doctorate holders) to work in a multidisciplinary research team active in the area of Humanities and Social Sciences. The assignment period is 8 months (end of assignment: May 2020).


Position no. 1

One of the recruited team members will work on the development of the ‘Plurality’ sub-programme, which is an integral part of Flagship 1 (‘Europe in a changing world’) of the 4EU+ Alliance. The candidate for this position is expected to be fluent in English, knowledge of French will be considered an asset. The candidate’s responsibilities will include:

  • supporting the management of and communication within the scientific network in the 4EU+ ‘Plurality’ sub-programme (involving six member universities of the Alliance),

  • assisting in setting up new research and educational projects in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences within the 4EU+ Alliance.

Position no. 2

The other four selected candidates will work on the preparation of project proposals to be submitted in the calls organised by the National Science Centre (Narodowe Centrum Nauki, NCN). They will also actively participate in research activities of the Centre for French Culture and Francophone Studies, including the organization of scientific events and development of publications and other communication activities. Candidates applying for this position should have an academic background in one of the following areas:


  • European issues (migration / diaspora, security, Central Europe),

  • collective memory,

  • Francophony and Francophone studies,

  • or any other area of social sciences that is in line with the Centre’s activity.


Knowledge of French is mandatory for this position.


Team members will be hired under a contract for a specified task and receive remuneration in the amount of PLN 2,000 (ca. 461 EUR) for a commitment of 80 hours per month for a maximum period of 8 months.


Candidates are requested to submit their CV and cover letter to by 22 September, 2019 inclusive. The letter (in Polish or French) shall present the candidate’s research project together with a related scientific event (for example, a publication, e.g. collective study, conference or discussion panel with a French-speaking expert organised in cooperation and under supervision of the Centre’s Director).


Participation in the research team’s work offers an opportunity to learn more about the French methodological approach and develop a network of contacts in Poland and abroad, including with French academic and research centres. Cooperation with the Centre will allow the recruited team members to develop their own research projects, in cooperation with the Centre’s Director and with the support of the entire research team.


About the Centre

The Centre’s activities involve promoting public debate between France and Poland, conducting research projects, fostering cooperation between French and Polish higher education institutions and serving as a library and knowledge centre on French language and culture. The research activity of the Center is multidimensional and deals with broadly understood Humanities and Social Sciences. The Center’s work programme focuses on migration in Europe and related challenges in the political, social and cultural spheres, international security, collective memory studies and historical narration.
