Capella Carolina and Collegium Paedagogicum perform Mozart's Requiem together

The Heidelberg University's Capella Carolina and Charles University‘s Collegium Paedagogicum performed together on 14 July in St Peter’s Church in Heidelberg and on 21 July in the Church of St Ursula in Prague to commemorate the victims of the Thirty Years’ War.

Choirs and orchestras of the 4EU+ member universities have established one of the most intensive cooperation in the field of culture within the Alliance. This time it was the Choir of International Studies Centre of Heidelberg University Capella Carolina and the orchestra and choir of the Faculty of Education of Charles University Collegium Paedagogicum who met on two occasions to give a common performance of the spiritual set-pieces of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) - Kyrie in D minor and the famous Requiem in D minor.

The concerts commemorated the 400th anniversary of the coronation of the “Winter King” Frederick V of the Palatinate whose life was tightly tied to both cities of Heidelberg and Prague. A minute of silence for those who fell in the Thirty Year’s War was kept before the final applause.

Both events received positive feedback from the participants and the audience and provided a great opportunity for the HU and CU students to meet, collaborate and make new friends. They also got a chance to learn about common history and cultural traditions of the two countries.
