Flagship 2: Europeanness: multilingualism, pluralities, citizenship

Educational pathways

Flagship 2 Europeannes: multilingualism, pluralities, citizenship is inviting all students from 4EU+ universities to educational pathways

  • What is an educational pathway?

Educational pathway is a complementary programme built out of a set of courses offered by 4EU+ universities. Since it is not a curriculum, you are not obliged to take all courses offered – it is your choice which you select and what exactly you want to study. A pathway is a new and flexible way of completing your education with abilities and skills you find interesting and/or beneficiary.

  • Which educational pathways are offered?

In the academic year 2022/23 we offer the first courses which constitute two educational pathways: Multilingualism and European citizenship.

  • Which pathway is for me?

In the educational pathway on multilingualism you have the possibility to study that phenomenon on two levels: the individual and societal level. At the level of individuals, the issues discussed are those how multiple languages are acquired, and how a second/third language is taught best. At the level of the society, you learn about the prestige of one or more specific languages over one or more others as well as similarities and differences in discourse and communication patterns in and across the European languages. The pathway will allow you to acquire linguistic competences from the interdisciplinary perspective and with a cultural element.

The pathway consists of courses organized into four modules according to the themes tackled:

  1. multilingual individuals

  2. multilingualism in space and society

  3. languages in contrast

  4. multilingual and multicultural communication

In the Learning Pathway on European citizenship you are presented with diversity in various areas, such as economic, cultural social, ethnic, etc. in order to develop deeper understanding of the notions which are at the fundaments of the European Union. You will gain skills in international relations, international trade, legal systems, finances, etc. The courses are expected to develop appropriate reactions to various social situations (e.g. mobbing, inequality, migration), creativity and aptitude for cross-border cooperation as well as to increase their social engagement. It is to teach you to understand Europeanness without Eurocentrism.

The pathway consists of courses organized into four modules according to the themes tackled:

  1. EU governance

  2. individuals, core values and fundamental freedoms

  3. history and historic-political relations

  4. literature and arts

  • What will I get if I complete the pathway?

On completion of an educational pathway you will obtain a certification in the form of the Letter of Attendance with supplement listing the skills and abilities you have acquired. The Letter of Attendance is issued on behalf of the European University 4EU+ Alliance.

  • What do I need to do to get such a certification?

In order to successfully complete the pathway you need to obtain the list of required learning outcomes. Such learning outcomes can be acquired during various courses:

○ dedicated 4EU+ courses with appropriate label – look for them on our website!

○ courses from your study programme if they offer the appropriate learning outcomes*

*the decision whether a given course that is part of your regular curricula fits into the pathway belongs to the pathway coordinator

You need to collect up to 20 ECTS points from a module to be awarded a micro-credential (at least 8 points need to be obtained from the course taught at a different 4EU+ university; up to 4 points can be obtained from a different module and up to 4 points from another pathway)

So, follow the steps:

  1. Select a course from the 4EU+ offer (announced each semester)

  2. If you attended the course with the learning outcomes matching those expected from the pathway, contact the coordinator

  3. If you fulfil the requirements, you’ll get the micro-credential of the European University!
