Workshop: The crisis of multilateralism

Lessons from the past, present characteristics and future challenges

Students from across the 4EU+ Alliance can register for this fully online workshop on the crisis of multilateralism. The workshop comprises 10 lessons of 2 hours. In the workshop description below, you can see the topic for each lesson and how to apply as well as other practical information.

Course description

The multilateral system established after the Second World War has been facing a profound crisis, calling into question its effectiveness, if not its existence. The present situation is unfolding against the backdrop of critical institutional factors that have exerted a deleterious effect on the activities of international organisations. The workshop aims to offer students a comprehensive perspective. Employing a multidisciplinary approach, the workshop will enable students to understand the specific characteristics of the current crisis, the extent to which it replicates past circumstances, and how states and other actors contributed to its emergence or can contribute to its solution. In addition, the workshop will explore specific issues that are causing a stalemate in international negotiations.

Target group: students studying international relations, political science, law and economics

ECTS credits: 3

Application deadline: 31 March 2026
