Czech Online


The Institute of Czech Studies of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, a leading global institution in the field of Czech as a second language, is now offering the new course Czech Language Online (A2 level) – for the Fall Semester 2020. This is a great way to gain extra expertise and soak up some Czech culture while still studying from your home university.


Czech Language Online is designed for students of Slavonic Studies and Eastern and Central European Studies. Students entering the course should have knowledge of the Czech language at an A1 level.


The course emphasizes the practical skills of speaking. The structure of the course will be a combination of independent tasks and assignments through the Moodle learning management system and live Zoom sessions with the professor.


The course, running from 21 September to 11 December (14 weeks), will cover listening and reading, training in oral communication and writing, vocabulary development, and more. Please note there is a required level of A1 for this course. If you do not already have Czech experience, let us know and we can direct you to another course.


The course is worth 9 ECTS credits (4.5 US credits) and each week, there will be two 90-min. sessions + one 45-min. lecture + one thematic group consultation based on student requests and needs.


The tuition is 1.200 EUR. For 4EU+ alliance students, there is a discount of 200 EUR, so that the tuition would be 1000 EUR.


The deadline to apply is 31 July, 2020. Upon successful completion of the course the participant would receive a Certificate - Charles University Transcript of Records.


Courses will be taught by Czech language professors based at The Institute of Czech Studies who are experts of Czech as L2 (second language).
