The 4EU+ Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) Call aims to support the joint development and implementation of innovative teaching projects delivered in a blended format, combining online and in-person activities, and involving academic staff from 4EU+ member universities.
The 4EU+ Blended Intensive Programmes Call reinforces the 4EU+ commitment to high-quality, inclusive, and sustainable research-based education. It also responds to the 4EU+ strategic ambition to ensure that students of 4EU+ member universities have the opportunity to participate in short-term educational activities offered by the Alliance during their degree programmes. BIPs play a role in advancing the objectives of the 4EU+ Strategy 2025–2035 such as enhancing research-based teaching and student engagement in knowledge co-creation, as well as fostering digital skills and pedagogical innovation.
The initiative seeks to foster interdisciplinary and inter-institutional cooperation, contribute to the development of sustainable teaching networks, and strengthen the Alliance’s ambition to build One Comprehensive Research-Intensive European University.
The Call is open to all scientific fields and disciplines. Proposed projects should contribute to the objectives of the 4EU+ Strategy 2025–2035 and fit thematically within at least one of the 4EU+ Flagships:
Flagship 1: Urban Health and Demographic Change
Flagship 2: Europeanness: multilingualism, pluralities, citizenship
Flagship 3: Digitisation – Modelling – Transformation
Flagship 4: Environmental transitions
They should address at least one of the five 4EU+ key competencies (multilingualism, data literacy, critical thinking, entrepreneurship, social engagement), as well as the other skills characterizing the expected profile of the 4EU+ student.
The Call supports projects involving academics from at least three 4EU+ member universities. Universities outside the 4EU+ Alliance may participate as additional partners but are not eligible to apply for this Call.
A BIP Project should employ innovative teaching and learning methods, including online cooperation and student-centred problem-based learning. Additionally, they should provide added value over existing courses (e.g., consisting of specialised content not taught somewhere else, or not taught/delivered in this way somewhere else, or enable the students or staff to gain new perspectives on the topic being studied).
The Call is addressed to academics and teaching staff affiliated with any of the eight 4EU+ member universities.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
PhD requirement: Applications may be submitted by academic or teaching staff who hold a doctoral degree.
Eligible applicants and coordinators: For the 2026–2027 academic year, applicants must be employed by one of the following 4EU+ member universities, which are the only institutions eligible to host and coordinate a BIP: Charles University, Paris-Panthéon-Assas University, the University of Milan and the University of Warsaw. Academics from the other 4EU+ member universities may participate as members of the BIP team.
Added value: Project teams that have previously received 4EU+ funding through Educational Projects, Mini-grants or SEED projects may apply, provided that their proposals comply with the BIP requirements and demonstrate added value compared with previously funded 4EU+ educational activities.
As a result of this Call, 11 BIPs will be selected.
Each proposal must involve at least three 4EU+ universities located in different Erasmus+ Programme countries, with students from at least three eligible 4EU+ institutions participating in the BIP.
As Switzerland is not associated with the Erasmus+ Programme, the University of Geneva cannot be counted among the three institutions required to meet the minimum participation requirement. However, it may participate in the BIP as an associated partner.
Institutions outside the 4EU+ Alliance may also participate as associated partners, but no funding is available to support their involvement.
The Hosting University is responsible for submitting the application and for the overall coordination and administration of the BIP, as well as for hosting the physical component of the educational activity, including communication and monitoring activities. Students from the Hosting Institution will not be counted towards the minimum number of participants (15 students from Sending Universities).
Only academics from Charles University, Paris-Panthéon-Assas University, University of Milan and University of Warsaw may submit a BIP application as a Hosting University.
A minimum of 15 students at BA, MA or PhD level from Sending Universities1 must participate in the BIP. Students from the Hosting University and the University of Geneva may also participate but do not count towards this minimum. The participation of students from the University of Geneva will be supported through the University’s internal funding.
Eligible students are those enrolled in a degree programme at the 4EU+ member universities participating in the BIP and meeting the criteria defined by the coordinator of the BIP.
Student selection is carried out by the faculty involved in the BIP at each university, in accordance with the procedures of the Sending University and in coordination with the relevant International Relations Office.
The programme must be designed in a blended format. There must be a physical component as well as a virtual one.
The physical component must last five days and be held at the Hosting University. The virtual component must be embedded in the programme and can be held before and/or after the physical component.
In accordance with Erasmus+ guidelines, the educational activity must award at least 3 ECTS to students participating in the BIP.
The online application form is available at this link.
The Hosting University receives a lump sum of €400 for each incoming student to cover the organisational costs of the BIP, up to an overall funding limit of €8,000, irrespective of the total number of incoming students participating in the BIP.
The lump sum may be used to cover organisational costs, such as catering, room rental, workshop materials and social programme activities. The Hosting University is responsible for retaining all invoices relating to these costs.
Travel and daily allowance of participating staff is funded by the Sending University, apart from this Call, according to Erasmus+ rates and/or internal rules. Applicants are strongly advised to check with their local 4EU+ Office and/or internal services the amount of funds available before submitting the BIP proposal.
Students receive travel and daily allowance for their mobility from their Sending University in the form of a lump sum and according to the Erasmus+ rates and/or internal rules.
Criteria
Guideline
1) Objectives (0-25)
Clarity and pertinence of the project’s objectives Please refer here to both the inherent educational objectives of the proposals and their relevance for 4EU+ i.e., “strengthen the current cooperation within 4EU+ in education”, “consolidating a common research-based educational framework”, „ensuring seamless access and recognition to educational opportunities”, „supporting the students’ development of a shared portfolio of transversal skills and competences“. Reference: 4EU+ Strategy 2025-2035
2) Expected results/ Sustainability (0-25)
Sustainability of the expected outcomes Please assess whether there is a realistic plan to sustain, repeat or further develop the BIP and its results beyond the initial implementation. This may include continued cooperation between the participating institutions, the integration of the BIP into existing educational offerings (e.g., curricula of existing study programs), the reuse of learning resources, or the development of future joint learning opportunities.
3) Implementation (0-25)
Quality and effectiveness of implementation Coherence and feasibility of the proposed implementation plan, including the integration of physical and virtual activities, the short and intensive format, and the adequacy of roles and resources. Also consider if the proposed didactic approaches are suited to achieve the expected outcome.
4) Novelty (0-25)
Novelty of the project
To which extent is the proposed work ambitious and innovative also in regards to numbers of universities involved ?
b) If the BIP is related to previous work in 4EU+, how does the project build on its results and add innovative new components to the previous work and justify its sustainability?
The BIP Call aims at supporting previous and new 4EU+ collaborations. While taking into consideration the starting point of the proposed projects, the novelty criterion thus refers to the intrinsic innovative nature of the proposals.
Launch of the Call: by Week 41 of 2026 (no later than 9 October 2026);
Application deadline: 30 November 2026;
Announcement of results: no later than 15 January 2027;
Selection of participating students: from mid-January 2027 onwards;
Completion of all BIP activities: no later than 31 July 2027.
All activities of the selected BIPs must be completed by 31 July 2027.
