About the Webinar

On the occasion of Global Recycling Day 2026, the webinar will explore how the transition to sustainable models is transforming industrial sectors, referencing recent European initiatives such as the Circular Economy Act, the Clean Industry Act, and the European Green Deal. Three case studies from different fields will demonstrate practical applications of innovative approaches to building a sustainable future in a rapidly changing world. The session will encourage dialogue between academia and societal actors, featuring experts from the 4EU+ Alliance’s associated partners – the Municipality of Milan, the City of Warsaw and the Cariplo Foundation.


Meet the speakers

Alessandro Banterle

Vice-Rector for Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition, University of Milan

Full Professor of Agri-food Economics and Policy and member of the Doctoral Committee of the PhD in Economics and of the PhD in Environmental Sciences. He has been founder and Editor-in-Chief of the international scientific journal “Agricultural and Food Economics. He is the coordinator of the PRIMA project GREENDRIEDFRUITS. His research interests include food policy, economic analysis of food supply chain, consumer behavior, environmental.

Michał Lejk

Deputy Director of the Infrastructure Department, City of Warsaw

He leads initiatives that transform the city centre into a more resilient, inclusive and people-friendly space. His work aligns with circular economy principles, emphasizing high quality public spaces, efficient resource use, green mobility and conditions that support local social and economic activity. He also oversees the effective delivery of infrastructure and renovation projects, integrating technical systems with residents’ needs and the long-term vision of a climate neutral city.

Lorenza Sganzetta

Food Poverty Office, Milan Food Policy, Municipality of Milan

Geographer with a strong interest in sustainable food systems, social cohesion, urban planning, climate change, and international cooperation. Her work focuses on the intersection between environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and public policy. Her work focuses on strengthening integrated actions to combat food poverty and prevent food waste.

Mirko Magni

Researcher, Department of Environmental Science and Policy, University of Milan

He holds a PhD in Chemical Sciences. His research focuses on Environmental sustainability in fields such as the valorisation of waste, recycling of end-of-life products and wastewater remediation. He is also one of the co-founders of the university spin off VisioNing srl, a deep-tech startup company born in July 2024 having as mission wastewater purification and conversion of it contaminants into high value products.

Diana Pozzoli

Deputy Director of the Scientific Research Area, Cariplo Foundation

She oversees grant-making programs and initiatives supporting scientific research and innovation. She has extensive experience in designing and managing funding schemes, coordinating complex research programs, and building strategic partnerships with national and international cofunders. She holds a degree in Sociology with a specialization in the Sociology of Science.
