CIRMAR : Circulation of Materials and Resilience of Local Communities in the Northern Italy in Late Antiquity

The project focuses on selected archaeological sites and materials in the provinces of Lombardy and Emilia Romagna in northern Italy, a cultural and economic hub at the crossroads of East-West and North-South exchanges, where climatic, geopolitical and economic changes posed significant challenges to local communities in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. Through selected case studies of late antique and early medieval churches and their ornatus, commercial and cultural interactions will be explored, with an emphasis on marble artefacts and pottery as indicators of transformation.
