This interdisciplinary educational project aims to establish a European Summer School (ESS) for master’s and doctoral students, focusing on the global issue of aquatic pollution by microplastics. The program will provide students with a comprehensive overview of the science and policy surrounding microplastic pollution, its impact on ecosystems and human health, and the intersection of science, policy, and action toward sustainability. Given the complexity and multidimensionality of microplastic pollution, addressing it requires an innovative, interdisciplinary, and multisectoral approach.
The ESS adopts a novel teaching format, combining the World Café and Flipped Classroom methods, along with a field trip, to foster interactive and participatory learning. Students will engage with experts from various sectors, including academia, government, NGOs, the private sector, and international organizations, gaining valuable hands-on experience.
