On 19 June 2019, Sorbonne University, together with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), Natural History Museum and several other partners, officially launched the Sorbonne University Centre for Artificial Intelligence (SCAI).
Located in the Pierre and Marie Curie campus, the Centre will serve as a hub for interdisciplinary research and training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and a showcase for Sorbonne University’s expertise in the field. Its establishment is the University’s response to the scientific and societal challenges generated by AI.
SCAI will bring together research teams working in the area of data science, high-performance computing and artificial intelligence in mathematics, computer science, robotics and other disciplines, such as climatology, biodiversity, health, economics and humanities. It will cooperate closely with industrial partners, among them the French multinationals ATOS, Thales Group and Total.
The creation of SCAI will be of paramount importance to the further development of the four flagship programmes of the 4EU+ Alliance, especially Flagship 3: Transforming science and society by advancing information, computation and communication.
